Educational goals
The aim of the undergraduate study programme Design is to train university-educated professionals who will be able as part of their work to respect the restrictions resulting from the limitations inherent to specific technologies and materials on one hand and the demands the market places on aesthetics and functionality on the other. Besides textile and apparel technologies they will also master the basics of aesthetics, graphic expression and general design. By choosing their specialisations students will position themselves for careers in industrial design in the areas of textiles, garments, glass and jewellery. This concept is unique when the technological facilities of the faculty are compared with universities of this kind. The course structure is based on creative work coupled with searching for the new ways of artistic processing of materials and unconventional products. Students will obtain not only theoretical and practical knowledge on this level, but also sufficient flexibility, an ability to communicate about industry-specific topics in English, an understanding of art history and a set of what is comprehensively referred to as soft skills.
Profile of the graduate
Graduates will acquire a fundamental knowledge of textile and other technologies and will be thoroughly familiar with materials and designing for applications in the industrial design of textiles, garments, glass and jewellery. They will be able to use and express themselves in design software. They will be well informed about and able to create in specialist progressive technologies and design apparel and multi-purpose textiles, clothes collections and textile, interior and garment accessories. They will be able to link the technological side of patterning with artistic foundations in textile, clothing and jewellery disciplines. They will manage to independently conduct and present creative work. They will be prepared to enhance their qualifications by continuing their studies in master’s degree programmes abroad as well as in the Czech Republic or start a career.
